About The Event
Join naturalist, April Claus as she introduces you to creatures that creep and slither with Upstream Pittsburgh! This hands-on interactive program introduces you to the reptiles and amphibians of Pennsylvania. Learn how to identify frogs and toads by their call, examine touchable models and learn how to identify the venomous snakes that live in our state. Meet and touch some LIVE snakes, toads, turtles and salamanders that are native to western Pennsylvania. You will be amazed at the important role these animals play in our local ecosystem. After the live animal program, the group will go on a short hike to a local green space to search for some local “herps.” Be ready to go outside and get dirty!
Age level: Family program, best for ages 7 and up (Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult for both portions of the program)
Expectations: The field portion of this program will involve hiking to local woodlands and streams, which may involve navigating challenging (uneven) terrain at times. Please wear appropriate footwear.
